Most people could and probably do this. This whole thing is all about scare tactics. Is there really any difference between a small "c" conservative and a small "l" liberal if they are both working toward the betterment of the people, the country and the world?

Yes, it can be done and it does happen every now and then.
The problem today is that there are too many immoral people who do not care about the evils to our society that dirty tricks politics and stereotyping bring.
Those to both the far right and far left are waging a civil war in this country and we (you and I and any moderate free-thinker) are the ones who are paying the price.
Example: Having a moral conscience means nothing to a man who claims he supports the spreading of democracy while his close family friends rule a dictatorship and his business friends conduct business with immorally corrupt countries.
The far right, knowing it can't morally justify lies, uses the tactic of deflection to draw as much attention away from the lie as possible.
The far left, thinking they are the saviors of the world, try to beat you over the head with their dogma. When this fails, as it usually does, they resort to the same tactics as the far right.
It is a civil war and it weakens America and our image around the world.

So long as everyone is a label, they will be used by politicians.
Gays, Mexican, Conservatives, Liberals, Flag-Burners, Etc.
In the meantime, nothing gets done because we in the middle are stuck with the fringes. Just like this person above, considering United States citizens as "the enemy".
This is the discourse we have now, we should call it "Coulterism"

well that would mean that person would have to know the issues enough to discuss them intelligently and have some knowledge of the rules of debate. Unfortunately there are very few qualified statesmen that are able to do this and probably not too many on Yahoo answers apparently.

without labels, liberals would not be able to force sensitivity training on anyone that did not hold the same dislexic beliefs that they do.

It would be like discussing a Dolphins-Redskins game without using the words 'Dolphins' or 'Redskins'. Sure, ti can by done, but why?

A rose by any other name still smells as sweet.
And in this case, a bag of garbage by any other name is still a bag of garbage.
