people have been saying that will turner killed his own father, because when he was thron overboard by his crew he was cursed and wouldnt have dies until the blood was shed on the coins, thereby making him mortal again. I say no, the two pirates said when they were re-tarring the floor of the boat and jack was in the jail down there that they had gotten bootstrap to tell them the location, at which point they mutinied and threw him overboard. They had not found it yet, and were not at all cursed yet. He did not kill his own father. What do ya'll think?

in the first movie...the big deal was about the single coin Will had around his neck and was taken by his chickee friend. That coin was Boot Strap Bill's share of the Aztec treasure. It was also said in the movie that Bootstrap Bill was tied to a cannon and shot. Now in my mind I put BootStrap Bill as one of the cursed pirates because he had a share of the cursed treasure. If he had not ben around after the treasure was found, Will would not have had that coin around his neck. (Will plainly said it was the only thing left of his father)

I can only imagine that BootStrap Bill was the first pirate to turn against Barbarosa after the treasure was found. he wanted to regain honor back to the ship and possibly make a mutiny. If BootStrap Bill was the first (bloodshed) regarding the coins to salvage the honor of the Aztecs I can see it as only fitting that since they "killed" him his blood would be the one required element to redeem their salvation....kind of a catch 22.

Now, if Bootstrap Bill was cursed when shot by the canon that would mean he was not dead, merely undead. Possibly walking at the bottom of the ocean or even.....dare I say, encountering Davy Jones and the villains of the second movie.

If Bootstrap Bill was merely just walking the bottom of the ocean as a cursed pirate, he could easily walk his way out in whatever fashion he was able, either that of he was still underwater when the curse was broken at the end of the 1st movie. In which case he drowned. However, if Bootstrap Bill was absorbed into the Davy Jones assimulation, then he would have received his own special demonic Davy Jones powers and would have become one of them, therefore reliveing him of the Aztec curse but cursing him with a far greater curse...that of the dreaded sea bilge pirate.

Thank you for providing me with an excuse to play the DVD again and study the question. I will edit my answer when I have done so.

OK, I'm back. Actually, it is possible to read it either way. I suspect the question was left intentionally ambiguous, and we may find out the truth in the second episode, which is SOON!!!

that would explain a lot, but then why would will turner's father's blood brake the curse?
