as with anything, you need to spend money to make money. enter poetry contests, submit it to poetry magazines, get feedback, get published, put together a collection once you get some credentials...get a literary agent. it is a long, hard process.

Its what you do with it that makes it worth something. Money we can give it away to help others or be greedy. You can make a poem to hurt someone or share. Money goes through a system like poetry goes through my veins Money goes through a system like poetry is in my brain. With money we all try to get the most high just like education. White black or red though the color of greens and the lines on the page each of us can find a way to relate? How much money you have we can stereotype and criticize just like we review poems and critics peoples thoughts. Money and poems can be alike because sometimes both are hard to get. Money and poems circulate and a passed around from people to people but both have an official owner?

Poetry is really hard to pay the bills.
You can do an academic thing, teach writing etc.
Or you can get a job that gives you free time.

It's harder than any other art I know to be lucrative.

I mean you can write jingles, or pop-songs...
work in advertising.

But no one buys books of poetry. And when they do, it's from the 'authority' of many seasoned years of careful editing and ruminating in metaphors. Because the people that buy books of poetry... are looking for that.

1) Pop music
2) Academia
3) Fringe

First, join the local literary guild or poetry club. Be prepared to pay your dues to Fame by starting small and working long, hard hours. Take heart, though. That's how you gain exposure. Exposure becomes attention, attention becomes following, following becomes popularity, which becomes demand. Demand can be best managed by a publisher.

Set a poem to music and get someone to record it, wait for it to become a worldwide hit, and then cash your royalty cheque.

But I wouldn't put too much faith in my answer.
