how do you use the lds to find out family history?

my family member place family history on a lds and he told me to put his full name to get this information. does anyone know how this works?

Go to www.familysearch.org. Type in the name of a deceased person you wish to find out about. For extra help, you could locate a family history center near you and they will give you more information. Go to this site for the location of the nearest family history center. It is all free.
