Don't use the belkin software- its rubbish. I have one but I switch off the belkin one and use the windows on instead. You need to set up an ad hoc network between PCs. Don't use decryption until you have it working. Make sure both PCs are on the same channel and have exactly the same SSID.

Set it up first on one of them and the second should automatically detect it when you search.

With everything turned off:

1. Connect your PC to the router using a CAT5 cable (sometimes called an RJ45 cable too). Or if it doesn't have any of those it should connect wirelessly, you do have a wireless NIC on the PCs I take it?
2. Power on the router.
3. Power on the PC.
4. Start -> Run -> cmd
5. Type 'ipconfig'
6. Is there an entry next to IP Address? If so, then another PC can be connected to a different port on the router and they should be able to communicate between each other.

You can use a web browser and go to the number next to Default Gateway (typically 192.168.1.1) if you want to configure the router further.

Plug your wireless router into your cable/DSL modem. it will broadcast at some default SSID on channel 6, probably with no security.

Fire up one of your computers and tell your wireless interface to show available connections. Yours should be quite strong and will have no security. Presumably any other connections you see will be less strong and will probably be encrypted.

You need to set up security on your network, too, but it will be very helpful to find the address of the router in the manual.

When you have it talking, come back and ask about encryption.

You need to connect network cables from the computers to router ports (on the back)

basically you have to wire it up (to each pc) first! (usb or network cables.)then once its setup it will work wirelessly like magic ;-)
