The following pasted from : http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa011600a.htm
Effective January 1, 2001, the annual salary of the president of the United States was increased to $400,000 per year, including a $50,000 expense allowance.
The increase was approved as part of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act (Public Law 106-58), passed in the closing days of the 106th Congress.
"Sec. 644. (a) Increase in Annual Compensation.--Section 102 of title 3, United States Code, is amended by striking '$200,000' and inserting '$400,000'. (b) Effective Date.--The <> amendment made by this section shall take effect at noon on January 20, 2001."
Vice President's Salary
The salary of the vice president is currently (for 2004) $202,900
Presidential Retirement and Maintenance
Former President Clinton will get an annual pension of $151,800 plus up to $150,000 a year to maintain an office and staff. Had Hillary Clinton not been elected to the U.S. Senate, she would have received $20,000 per year as a former First Lady.
Retired Presidents and First Ladies also receive Civil Service protection for 10 years after leaving office. Children of retired Presidents receive protection until they are 16 years old. (3 U.S.C. Chapter 3)
Also remember that as a retired President they also receive lots of money for speeches they give at various events, as ask to serve on the Board of Directors of many different corporations, some that I am sure benefited greatly while the President was in office and from which they draw salaries for holding a board position and usually end up writing one or more books or get royalties from people that write the books about them. In other words whatever salary the Government pays them is greatly overshadowed by their earnings from other sources. I also suppose you should include in their compensation the money the government spends to provide them a staff and office in retirement and then they still have the Secret Service agency providing security until their death and I'm sure I've missed quite a few items I haven't thought about.

It used to be $200,000 US/year for the rest of their life. Now I think it is $400,000 per year for life. Should be more though considering all the crap he deals with!
