The TV program must have the product used numerous times in scenarios but subtly. They get to choose which commercials are aired with the show. They have a say in all of the funding. They can choose what graphics are put in or how much to spend on graphics. It has to be a successful company to pull through with a show but the rewards outnumber the risks. The money involved depends on how much the company wants to contribute annually and how good actors they're getting and what they're paying. It is EXTREMELY complicated.

It depends on the ratings of the show, what day and time it airs, if it is a network or cable show, if it is locally or nationally aired, and a number of other factors. It can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars sometimes.
