I think they just live for the moment...they don't think about the future and about the consequences of their actions. They want to be happy as much as possible, no matter what the cost. Some people don't know how to be happy unless they are using drugs, drinking, etc. They don't know what true happiness is because they don't try to live outside of this little "comfort zone" they've created for themselves...it's seen as a negative environment to those who know better, but those inside that environment lack the courage to leave that zone. It's really sad. the saddest thing is to see someone get out of that environment and have a chance at a new, positive life, and then just completely blow it and go back to their old ways. I know, because my ex-boyfriend did this just as he was starting to grow and make a lot of progress. And there is nothing anyone can do about this. How pitiful. :<

very good question and you do wonder. i think most people are just not only self centered but just plain unhappy, they buy more and more 'toys' to make themselves feel better and that doesn't do it, they have all kinds of surgeries to make themselves 'feel more perfect', although they never feel perfect, they join clubs, hang with all the 'right people' and still they aren't happy so they take their frustrations out on others and even abuse their own bodies and minds as a way of striking out against what they perceive as an injustice done to them....bottom line you have to at some point recognize that 'things' are not going to make you happy, that being a good, decent, compassionate and kind person will and the sooner you work on who you are and the way you treat others the abuse will stop and you will love life for just what it is...a chance to make this world a much better place to live for all of us.

Most people don't 'abuse' life consciously, they think they're enjoying it. I guess it all depends on what you personally consider abuse.
For example, some people consider a slap on the bottom abuse and some consider it a measure of punishment.
Some consider drinking alcohol and smoking abuse of drugs while for others it's just a part of their every day.

Well, actually, not everyone loves life.
And not everyone has the same definition of what constitutes "abuse."
For example, I knew someone who felt that any part of his life that was not all drugged-up on heroin was not worth living. So he didn't consider drug abuse to be "abuse." But *I* sure did!
To give another example, I would have been miserable if I'd had kids, but my mother felt that I had abused the gift of life that she'd given me by refusing to have any (I guess her gift came with strings attached?). She told me that I should have gone ahead and made myself miserable by having kids. But if I'd have listened to her, then I would have felt that I'd "abused" my life by not living the life that I wanted to live.
There are ALL sorts of standards for what constitutes "abuse," and this is definitely a case where "one size does not fit all."

No one appreciates what they have untill its taken away from them. Majority of the people who love life are the ones who have seen death very close, and they have a meaning or purpose to live. The others who abuse it are bums. They do not stop to think that if it does not belong to them, they should respect it. Either way they should respect life and its different forms.

Because we think we can do anything in life and not regret it when we are older.Believe me I wish half the things I did in my youth I hadn't done.I am 50 and my body lets me know I am running down now.I didn't do drugs I just drank like a fish and now I am sorry for that.I quit drinking 6 years ago.

Because some people have cold, black, stone hearts and love greed, hatred, and jealousy: all the things that are tearing the world apart into tiny little pieces.....

Because people naturally seek pleasure...I think it's called hedonism. And, as everyone knows, not everything that gives you pleasure is good for you, in fact, it's usually not. Like drugs, alcohol, junk food, ect.

Well what do you exactly mean by 'abusing it'? By doing what?
That could mean a number of things.
