homophobia is learned. "REAL MEN" dont like gay men, its theire biggest fear to be thought of as sensitive to anything especially when their own sexuality may be questioned...so because of society its not okay for STRAIGHT men to understand gayness....its by no means based on genetics, it can be tought through family though, if a father is homophobic, he will be terified of his son becoming gay sooo he will do everything he can to keep his son from becoming that... so his views might stick, from generation to generation

I think that it's a learned behavior. In most people it seems that their minds have been poisoned towards homosexuals by either family or friends. I think another reason for it is an insecurity in their own sexuality.
