My name is on the lease as well but he is the first name and they did the credit background check on him, not me. My name is secondary. He's flipping out because he hasn't paid his rent and they are going to file for eviction. Also, he's an illegal, and using a relatives name.

We live in CA and he's just freakin' out because they threatened to evict him. I'm afraid he will sell me down the river just to save his own name (actually, he's an illegal and it's a relatives name)

Well buddy I hate to tell you, but you are on that lease too, which means you should be forkin over some money to make sure the rent is paid. He CAN kick you out. Him being illegal has nothing to do with anything(except if they take him to court for an eviction judgement in which case his butt will be sent back from whence it came on whatever continent). He can also flee across the border, or ocean or wherever he was born, and leave you high and dry.
Regardless of whether or not your name is secondary or 32nd, the fact of the matter is, if they don't get the money from him, and and he decides to run, they'll come get you. It's not HIS rent it's YOUR rent(as in the TWO of YOU). So start being responsible and either borrow, beg(but please don't steal) from whoever can help you, then get off your butt and find a job and start paying some bills. Then be sure to pay back whoever loaned you the money to save your home.
finally after you get a job, and you save some money, get your own apartment and attempt to grow up.

He can't evict you. Your name is on the lease too. He can sew you for half the rent if the landlord files a judgment agents him in court to pay any back rent or damages to the property. And as far as the illegal thing goes I suggest just finding the money to pay the rent.

How would evicting you help him at all? Anyway, he's not the landlord, so obviously he can't evict you. And the lease is a contract, so he can't remove his name from the lease on his own.
If the lease says you are each on the hook for the full rent, then you are.

Allot of that depends on where you live. He Can not remove his name from the lease . He con not evict you with out a court proceeding . To be safe call a lawyer that does landlord tenant law and handles tenants .

Depends on the state, but if he tries to remove his name from the lease, he could be in real trouble if your landlord is a stickler. A lease is a contract, and you can't just decide to break a contract without a good reason.
