The actual sound card will depend on two things.
1. If it is on board the chips is soldered onto the motherboard, while the outputs are located at the back of the PC usually in the middle. there should be 3 hole green, blue and pink, or if it is a good motherboard with 8 channel sound Green, blue, pink, black, orange and another pinkish one.
2. If it's a discrete card like the Creative Sound blaster live/Audigy it is a slotted card in which case the outputs are located on the card itself and will also be at the back of the case all lined up in a row, anywhere from the bottom to middle but below the screen card.
GREEN - front speakers (1)
BLACK - rear speakers (2)
ORANGE - Center and sub (3)
(above is how five point 1 works)
BLUE - Line in
PINK - Mic input
anything extra is for another channel of speakers or it is a digital out put. If there is a block like output it is an SPDIF output.
All the colours assuming your cards are colour coded. Some more expensive creative/or other cards usually have gold inputs and are usually marked with a number or symbol.
If that doesn't help comment on the model of speakers you have.

You may have an "integrated" card and not a stand alone plug in type. But there should be jacks on the back of the computer ( many are color coded to the speaker color light blur and mic green) just look near where the monitor is pluged in and look for holes ( female input).

well it depends on what card you have.
and if its intergrated or a add on card.
you card might not even support your Speakers (5.1 surround)
But you'll have to plug them into the correct jacks (blue, green, pink) and switch the inputs over to outputs in the control panel.
blue is input
Green is speaker output
pink is microphone input

Open it and read it. twice.
Can't find it?
