If Germany win the world cup, and you go to a place crawling with Germans for holiday (Spain, Portugal - not that I'd go there, Hungary - where i'm headed, Austria, Germany etc.), will you feel that when talking to a German, if it got onto talking about football, you'd have to give them a comment about them winning and give them a smile and a pat on the back, or they might think you are being bitter?

Why not, if they get all high and mighty, remind them that they lost both the World Wars..................

I wouldn't mention the football at all.

Just because i'd spoken to a German over in Germany, it wouldn't nesacarily mean that they condone or even like the game of football.

They might not have been the slightest interested in it and i don't see how i should have to bring it into the conversation.

If they were to bring it up - i wouldn't say 'well done' or even appear to be remotely interested. Why should i give the person that mentions that their team won, a pat on the back?

Did they personally go out there onto the pitch and kick the ball or contribute to the game in any way, shape or form? No. they haven't and probably never will.

If i came across one of the players that were part of the team that won the cup i may then give them a pat on the back if they mention it in conversation, as they have contributed towards winning not just sat at home like a fat couch potatoe and scoffed crisps and beer whilst watching what they call 'The Beautiful Game'.

Oh Please.

Well, first of all, if uncertain, try not to get into a situation when you are talking about football (in America it's soccer, but in Europe it's football, so watch out) if you do get in that situation, first I would recommend if the person was rooting for Germany, or for some other coutry, just in case. Then start off by discussing the game (if you were lucky enough to catch it) if not, then ask for highlights, you won't even have to mention them winning if the conversation gets to be very heated (exciting, etc. for a lack of a better word). That is a very useful strategy for a situation when you are uncomfortable with something: just skirt around the edges of the sertain part of the conversation, while still not making the other person feel concious of it :) cheers!

Well considering they crashed out last night ...

I'd tell them that i sympathised with them (as it is not easy to lose by 2 goals to nil in the last 2 minutes of the game, especially when they were sure to win on penalties)

no!!! I'd simply say that it's foot ball! You never know until the referee blows the whistle. Then i'd add that they did better than England anyway!

i do not accept as true with both statement. First, Cena is the right face of WWE, he sells the most merchandise, he sells out arenas, he brings contained in the most money and probable makes the most money of each and every of the WWE wrestlers, no longer in person-friendly words that, yet he has a pastime and love for the wrestling company, it really is something he has consistently wanted ever on condition that he became a new child, he's residing his dream, no element in giving that up. second, that merely isn't real, he has earn maximum followers understand, there are in person-friendly words some Cena haters available, who merely hate Cena for doing his job, maximum followers love Cena, and the others, do not have any more something adverse to Cena in my opinion, they understand how complicated he works, and many different issues about Cena, they merely don't like Cena's personality. surely, it really is a sturdy majority of wrestling followers that understand all wrestlers, for the bumps and disadvantages they take merely to entertain us, the followers, and, in case you became a significant WWE action picture star, would you provide all that up merely because some one on Y!As advised you to, i don't think of so, and in case you probably did, nicely, that does no longer be the neatest element to do.

I worked with alot of Brazilians when brazil won the world cup and they use to drive me crazy about how great the brazil team is, so I use to tell them they since they sucked at everything else they did they had to be good at one thing. But Germany is doing good so that wont work

Oh really what does it matter what they think!! As long as you like them and they like you that is all that matters. Of course you would congratulate them on winning, but if they think you are being bitter when you are not, then it is teir problem to deal with and not yours!!!!!

You could always try "It's nice that you won something for a change".

Especially gratifying if you march off whistling the great escape theme.

I wouldn't ! I don't worry about stuff like that. Plus it's not them personally that would win it ( if they do) ... So: no! I don't care! And I don't care what anybody might think!
