Yup, it's everywhere... Up here in Canada, too. We even have board games and I remember seeing a Sudoku game for the Sony PSP.

Oh,god. So poular. When I was in the hospital, all the nurses wanted to help me with my sudoku, and I didn't even know how to do it. my mom calls i soduko

It is not only in the newspapers, it is in countless books, both for adults and children, from "Easy" to "Hard". I've never seen a craze catch on so fast. (I'm addicted to it, too!)
