Try changing the setting from NTSC to PAL or MULTI or the other way around. I get the same problem with a couple of discs i brought but not with the same make of player. I actually have a couple that can take me about 20 mins of chopping and changing to get to play. Very annoying and end up playing disk on computer most the time.

Silly question, but, are the DVD's right side up?
It's a common problem, especially nowadays since the manufacturers don't take as much care to label the DVDs as before.

I would suggest going into Control panel, and look through, advanced, then device manager...it will say if there is a problem when you look at the Sony device. When the computer starts up press F2 or DEL or what ever your computer needs to get into the bios setup. Look through the settings and see if there is a cd listed. If not you need to enable it!

For some reason your dvd player isn't reading the disk. Maybe the disk is scratched or something.
