Determine the length and width along with the height off of the ground. Decide the approximate weight the platform is intended to hold. If this is a deck for use by people, it must be constructed according to applicable building codes. Visit your local home improvement center and they will work up a material list and prices.

Many of them will also generate a drawing for you in just a few minutes using a computer drawing/estimating program.

What are the dimension of the platform and how much weight does it need to hold? After you answer this question and where you are going the install it. Then go to home depot or any lumber yard.

For a 4' x 4' you need 2 -16' 2x8's one sheet of 5/8 or better pywood, 5lbs of 16d nails 5lbs of 8d nails . one tube of subfloor adheisive.
