So, this is a multipoint question. 1) do you commonly remember your dreams? 2) do you dream from more than one perspective, meaning first person (behind someones eyes), authors standpoint (like your looking over everyones shoulder), or multiple standpoints? 3) do you know you are dreaming while you are dreaming? 4) can you control or change your dream while you are dreaming? And finally 5) is there usually a 'main character' as opposed to just 'you' in the dream. I am curious because I frequently dream from three viewpoints, an overlay of author's standpoint, main character's eyes, and antagonists eyes. I know I'm dreaming, and can set or change my dreams while in them, and I very rarely am the main character in my own dreams, rather its a character. I don't know anyone else who does this and am curious if anyone else out there does it as well?

Since someone mentioned it, I have died, felt pain, looked at myself in a mirror, stopped breathing, drowned, etc, etc, all the things ppl tell you can't/won't/don't in dreams. Anyone who says you can't feel pain in your dreams is just naive!

To clarify, I mean 'looking over everyone's shoulder' like when you are watching a movie. Probably could have phrased it better. :)

1 Sometimes I remember if I think about them as soon as I wake up.
2 Yes sometimes
3 Sometimes
4 Sometimes but only if I know I'm dreaming
5 Sometimes and then sometimes I'm the main character

Here is a few things I've figured out. If you fall or die in your dreams you will not die in real life. You just wake up really confused.
If you dream about a mirror don't look in it and try to see yourself. This was one of my worse nightmares. When I woke up I could still see that face staring down at me from my bedroom ceiling.

LOL, I guess I'm just naive

whoa, lot to answer. Yes i do remember a lot of dreams, mostly though for only a day or two after unless they are really special, or i happen to tell someone else about it and they remind me. Pretty much all the time it is from my own perspective but occassionaly from the third person disembodied position. I rarely realise I am dreaming, even when the most stupid things happen they seem rational and reasonable at the time, usually if i do discover it i will wake up soon after. That being said it's difficult to control things when I do not know I am dreaming but I am rather good at waking up whenever i want.

The main character is always me, mostly exactly how i am but occasionally with changes. Often I am in a different place with people I don't know or havn't met that much or rather bizarre things are happening. Sometimes I change in some way, I have had the occasional dream being younger or older than I am now. I am always "me" or an alternate version, I am never say a stranger or a famous person, i always seem to retain my identity in the sense of my name and past experiences if they count i nthe dream, I never jump into somebody with a different past or appearance.

Great question.
1. Yes
2. Usually first person, but often I don't appear to be in the dream at all. I don't recall any "looking over the shoulder" dreams, more like watching a movie. In one recurring dream I watched myself run through the school yard in slow motion and start to float into the air while continuing to run.
3. Yes, except when I'm dreaming that I'm awake and then wake up.
4. Very rarely, but on a few occasions - yes. In recurring dreams I have "chosen" to turn and face the feared pursuer or to choose a different option than the one I had been trying. Several times the dreams have ended up with a strange real consequence. The most memorable is in a recurring dream when the character I called the Amoeba Man was chasing me. He resembled a huge, half melted Pillsbury Dough-boy. One night I had had enough and turned to fight him. I ended up throwing him into the ground making a huge hole. About a month later I went to visit my parents and there was a new Amoeba Man shaped pool in their back yard.
5. If I am in the dream I always recognize myself as me although I might be different facets of myself.

Okay, first question up until recently my dreams have been more clear than they have been for a long time and last night I had 3 of which I can remember all three were bad. Now the second question I don't remember of ever being able to see through someone elses eyes if I am able to I can't see myself I'm not in the dream in that case (ex: I'm dreaming I'm wonderwoman I'm saving people. I won't be able to see myself in the dream, I wouldn't save myself...I hope that makes some sense) Third question I think I know I'm dreaming to an extent but sometimes once again going back to last night the dream felt so real I actually woke up startled and wondering if some of that stuff really did happen. The fourth question I have never been able to change my dream while I was dreaming...I do have a friend so was at one time able to make himself fly and he could fly to where ever he wanted. He first found out he could do this and really wasn't sure if it was possible then he tested it out and was able to fly in many of his dreams, he since hasn't been able to do so but, I've always found that interesting wonder why some people can control aspects of their dreams while others can't is it lack of imagination lack of confidence in the real life? Now your fifth question in most of my dreams everyone is a 'main' character everyone I talk to in my dreams is because once I begin to associate with them they then become a large part of my dream they are with me through out the dream...in other words they play a significant role throughout the entire dream.

The reason for some people who can fly and others who can not maybe as small of a thing as when you go to sleep you know you are dreaming or not. I think I prefer not knowing because I never know what I'm going to dream it's like rolling the dice and then being a part of a movie. Just how I look at it.

When I dream, I dream of me seeing other people. I dream of myself. There has been a few times where I dream me seeing me doing things. That was weird. I did not see my face, but I knew that person I was looking at was me.
Sometimes when I have a bad dream, I quickly make myself wake up, then, I go back to sleep but, I keep in mind to picture something nice and then, go from there. That has actually worked. So, you are not the only one, I suspect, who can change within their dreams. It is a subconscious thing that some do not realize they can do.
