when you meet someone online,why do they say that they want to be your friend and then you never hear back

I don't know. There are so many people on this site, that perhaps you just get lost in all the shuffle of answering questions.
I have several people that I have given advise to that I talk to through my email address to. Perhaps you should give these people your email address in addition to this site.

they either aren't worth having for a friend in the first place or they are very busy and don't get on here much.

maybe you should chase them up? or maybe the work 15 hours a day? anyways, the ones that will truely be your friend will talk to you no matter what :)
