Dark Horizons reports that a former Jack Ryan might return on Red Rabbit.

Red Rabbit: In a nice sense of irony, it looks like Alec Baldwin is returning to the Jack Ryan franchise which he helped kick off - though not as you might expect. The Z Review reports that Baldwin is in talks to co-star in this adaptation of Tom Clancy's "Red Rabbit" alongside Ben Affleck - both actors having played Jack Ryan in previous films ("The Hunt for Red October & "The Sum of All Fears" respectively). As Affleck will be playing Ryan again this time around, it means Baldwin's role will likely be that of Chief of Station Ed Foley. This may cause some confusion admittedly amongst filmgoers although the pair have worked together before in 2001's "Pearl Harbor". Thanks to 'Roger'.

in Red Rabbit he has finished his term of office, and he clandestinely funded an organization headed by a friend of his to go after (mainly) terrorist groups. he is not directly connected to this organization, and it seems he doesn't know that his son Jack Jr and his two nephews are working for this organization. it's made to appear he is busy writing his memoirs during this time.

knowing tom clancy's penchant for not following a strict time line with his novels, he may yet (hopefully) write another jack ryan novel from the time he leaves the presidency until before Red Rabbit. So many things have happened, as mentioned in Red Rabbit, with Robby Jackson being assassinated during his (presidential) campaign and the rebounding Kealty who became president because Ryan decided not to seek another term after Robby got killed.

So many blank spaces yet to fill for Jack Ryan's adventures....

He became president at the end of "Debt of Honor" , when the Japanese dude flew an airliner into the capitol building (that book was written in '96, spooky) and is still president in the latest novel, "The Bear and the Dragon."

he became president and served his time. he is now retired. his son, Jack Jr has now joined the 'secret' organization....and the story begins with Jack Jr doing lots of fun, clock-and-dagger stuff.
