Why don't you ask your prospective date, "You don't have to tell me where we're going, but I was wondering how I should dress - casual or not?"

I'd go for something that's chic.A halter neck with a cardigan/shawl ,a pair of jeans and sandals.Oh and don't forget accessories,a simple handbag/clutch.Simple and still fab.why?
halter looks cool if you're heading to the beach/club/shopping, jeans are vesatile fold em' up if you're heading to beach/rollerblading/biking, sandals nice to show off pedicured footsies and also prevents blisters if you gotta walk a long way.And finally handbag/clutch for that last min touch up,and to keep you're lippies ready for the end of the night.Oooh go for those with sweet tastes not the gloss or "i transfer my lips to you" lip stick/colour.It' turns them off.

Nice dark wash jeans and a cami, and flats just in case he decides that you're going to a place with stairs or will be doing a lot of walking.

casual,maybe jeans and a nice top or a long skirt and top.
Dont get over dressed,if its your first date together you dont want to over do it in the clothes department.

Try a combination. A flattering black dress that you can dance in and bowling shoes. :-)
