I love your question, it is soooo funny.
I live in a Spanish Speaking country and for
decades computer makers ignored our need
for that symbol....
All you have to do is press ALT + 164 (the
numbers must be stroked in the numeric pad,
not in the numbers row below the functions row,
and also the numbers must be pressed while the
ALT key is kept pressed. Once you release the
ALT key, the symbol will appear.
Also if you want to use Capital Letters, the
correct combination is ALT+165

Also if you want to place the accent on top of
the vowels, here are the combinations:

ALT+160 á
ALT+130 é
ALT+161 í
ALT+162 ó
ALT+163 ú

It is good to learn these by heart....
Thank you for trying to write spanish correctly.

It differs with the application you're using...
But here, if you press 1 then 6 then 5 on the numeric keypad, whilst holding down the Alt key, you'll get Ñ.
Alt 164 gives ñ

Just tried it in Word & Excel - works there too!

It depends on what program or application you're working in. If it's Microsoft Word, you go to Insert, then Symbol, and then find the "n" with the tilde, click on it, then click Insert. At that point, you can copy and paste it into other applications. See? ň
