If you are talking fastpitch softball, try cutting down on your swing by holding the bat a little lower, your hands at your chest rather than your shoulders. You may of course choke up on the bat and or use a lighter bat. For slowpitch, hit where they pitch you, ouside pitches go the opposite way, middle of the plate, go up the middle and inside, pull it.Most common error in slo-pitch is an uppercut swing, to correct this, practice hitting down on the ball.

Get hits! If you get 30 hits in 100 at bats it's a .300 avg. If you get 40 hits in 100 at bats it's a .400 avg. Hit the ball solid with a nice level swing and the hits will come.

There is a ball you can attach to a pole (basketball goal maybe). Its kind of like tetherball, except you hit the ball with a bat and after it wraps all the way around, it just springs right back around at you. I saw my neighbor using one of these and he's very good.
