Several years ago the mens' tennis became somewhat boring because of baseline tennis. The womens' game was fantastic because you had the likes of Navratilova, Graf, Sabatini, etc who played some fantastic physical and entertaining tennis. Now it's all about who can serve faster and who can hit the hardest - it's soooooo boring. Technology has its pros and cons - use it to slow down the game and make it more enjoyable to watch!!!!

I agree. They also need to come up to the net more often. If you go beck 40 years the dead grass would be at the serves line, not the base line.

Whilst I agree that used to be the case in mens tennis I am finding it less so now. More men can match the big serves so we are getting some terrific, athletic rallys in the mens matches. Several players can now match the big servers and return the serves. I am hoping to see a Nadal/Federer final.......that should make very entertaining tennis. As for the use of technology, if they used Hawkeye to verifiy disputed calls that could be good and would not take many seconds to do.

I certainly think that men's tennis is improving. Although you're still getting quick sets due to some ferocious serves when the players are reasonably matched you're seeing some good tactical play up and down the court.

The women's game however is dull as dishwater and as predictable

First Service (scream) - Out - Second service (squeak) - return to opposite corner baseline (shriek) - return to opposite corner baseline (grunt) - return to opposite player - return to opposite player - miss (mild smatter of applause)

I think coming up to the net kills the game.
It's no fun to watch because a play ends too quickly.
Playing from baseline test the stamina and the brains of the players ... and beautiful shots come from this sort of play.

Well, to be fair, let's just say, you need different types of players.
I personally don't mind baseliners ... Agassi is one, and he's a pleasure to watch!

what about players like taylor dent on the men's side, amelie mauresmo and justiine henin-hardenne on the women's side who do still employ the agressive, all-court style. not to mention foger federer's greatness
