The Bible authored by Jehovah God. Why? Because of all the self help books, this book comes from the one being that is truly qualified to assist all humans.

Now that's asking a lot... How do you pick just one, when there are so many different things to be written about... But if I had to choose one based simply on pure pleasure of reading, it would have to be The Hobbit, by Tolkien(sp)... It stands out for me in part, due to the first few words written on the flyleaf... " Hobbits, are furry footed little creatures, who like to eat six meals a day, if they can get them "... That, caught my attention, and I could not put the book down once I started... In case you didn't know, The Hobbit, is the precursor to, The Lord of The Rings... Or perhaps I should say, the Rings, is the culmination of the Hobbit.. Either way, both were masterful...

My favorite book is the Mists of Avalon by Marien Zimmer Bradley. It takes the Camelot story and turns it upside down by having the heroine of the story be Morgana, Arthur's sister. Her motives are to save Britian, to insure that the female based native religion that is the source of power is preserved...Merlin is her former lover as well and Arthur is profoundly broken. We always see Arthur as the ineffectual hero, and yet here he is just a boy, unable to manage the kingdom as he turns his back on the Lady of the Lake. An awesome book, I also read all of Marien Zimmer Bradleys other books, especially the Darkover series.

My favorite book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
Why?
*It was one of my first science fiction books and led my way into the genre
*It introduced me to other works by Orson Scott Card who turned out to be my favorite author. And while I enjoy reading many books by many different authors, the number of OSC books on my favorites lists ranks him at the top.
*It is such a wonderful book to reread every year. I have to visit it regularly.
