How many electrons does one have? If it has less than 8 it will seek another atom that it can combine with to make a multiple of 8 shared electrons.

As for its bonds, depending on the number of shared electrons, it will either be an ionic, valent, or covalent bond. The closer to a multiple of 8 a bond is, the stronger it will be.
