It is probably a phone line issue (definitely not your computer). Modems usually break, not degrade because they are all digital.

For your own safety, you should get DSL or cable - even poor DSL or cable. Modems have a huge risk factor: A dialler trojan gets installed on your computer and starts phoning home (you may not realize it until you get the $5000 phone bill).

Phoneco will probably NOT support you - they get a big percentage of that money. Various ones have been known to say "you should not have downloaded that", "you should have read the agreement", or worse (this happened) "we saw that activity and thought it was suspicious but felt it was not urgent."

Hello! :o)

How old is this modem? Have you checked the Creative web site to see if there is any "firmware" updates that need to be downloaded? Sometimes they do push out these kind of patches for modem cards. I'd try there first. ;o) I have pasted the link below.

Good Luck! :o)

could be a modem problem But most likely it's a phone line problem. caused by noise on the phone line, bad connection from the computer to phone line jack, adapters that you may be using to connect phones to the same line!
