The SAS is not in the habit of publicizing their membership. Was he in the British Army at any time? You can't just join the SAS, you must already be with the military and volunteer. Is he in superb physical shape? Is there something about him that makes you think he could kill 3 men with one hand while whipping up a souffle with the other?
Elite troops *rarely* boast about themselves or things they've done, they're just very matter-of-fact. If he is boasting, then he's most likely not in the SAS. You could ask him to show you his uniform, but that won't be enough, since they're probably available for sale.
Years ago, I knew a man that had served as a Navy Frogman in WW2. They were the precursors to the UDTs (Underwater Demolition Teams) and the SEALs. He was the father of one of my fraternity brothers, and would stop by the frat house for lunch now & then. Even though he was in his late 60's, there was something about him. He walked with a cane, and had other health problems, but there was no doubt in the minds of any of us that talked with him that he could have taken a group of 5 of us apart without breaking a sweat.
There's just something about elite troops, and it shows.

I agree with the other person, SAS and other Special Forces people don't talk about it unless it's with each other. When they get to that stage of training and expertise, they are in an exclusive organization, proven to be the best, and have no need to impress others with bragging about it. Your friend is probably lying to impress, like most weenies do.

If he claims he is he probably isnt
Does he dissappear for long unexplained periods?
Is he comfortable sh*tt*ing in a bag and keeping it in his pocket
Is he happily married
Does he lie about other things
Has he got a collection of "trophies"(ears,penises,etc)that he shows off when hes drunk?
Does he drink very heavily then cry about dead friends?
