Define "empire"

2006-07-04 07:07:11 · answer #1 · answered by JackJester 5 · 0 1

You are correct. Every empire will eventually succumb to time. Nothing lasts forever. I believe that within two hundred years the United States will be unrecognizable, or it will simply cease to be. At the rate that the constitution is being amended and reevaluated I can't possibly see how it could, in the future, bear any resemblance to the collection of laws that comprise our present incarnation. Not that that's a bad thing. Change is an important part of life. I look forward to the future, I do not cringe from it and try to relive the "glory days" of the past.

How is the U.S.A. an empire? Iraq has a separate government, and there has been no more expansionism. Furthermore, the prime factor contribution to the fall of empire is the resentment of the native citizens of conquerored territories. Does Hawaii resent being in the U.S.? (Note: if you think that it does because of the separatism, then keep in mind that the majority of Hawaiians oppose Akaka's bill). Does Alaska want to become part of Russia or become unincorperated? No. The U.S.A. hardly qualifies as an empire.

Without question.

The Egyptian Empire, the Roman Empire and even the British Empire were bigger, stronger, and believed to be invincible. But they all fell.

I think when an empire becomes as big as the US and fails to win the support of the people it can't help but fail. Empires seem to concentrate their wealth and power in a select few and turn the rest of its people into cattle from which wealth and power can be extracted.

Our Achilles Heel will probably prove to be our overly conceited self-image. Right now you can hardly find a product that was made in this country. We send all of our money to "third-world" countries for products Americans can't be paid enough to make here. Eventually these countries will use our money to build up their countries and one day we will be faced with a new world order.

If it keeps going the way it is now, yeah, and soon. Think about it. We are being taught that there is no right and wrong, and that we are the "evil western culture." Why would a country that believes everything is right (which would include Hitler) think it can stand? If everyone is right and wrong, we can't agree on anything, and we will fall. Especially if we think we are the evilest country in the history of the world and deserve to fall.

The USA doesn't (yet?) have an 'empire'.

Its position as a superpower will end one day. It is already clear that Russia is emerging as an energy superpower and China, Brasil and India with their massive populations will catch up economically.

If nothing else, the USA will find its power greatly reduced as it continues to use up oil. Its addiction will ultimately be its downfall.

Sooner than most people realize. Consider what the Bush administration has done since 2000:

1. Illegally and unconstitutionally invaded another sovereign nation that did not threaten, provoke or attack the U.S.A.;
2. Massacred tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens for no justifiable reason;
3. Turned America into a police state where citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent;
4. Initiated failed economic policies that will cause a severe depression as soon as Bush leaves office;
5. Put Americans trillions of dollars into debt because of an insane, insipid war game Bush is playing just to 'get even' with Hussein for humiliating his daddy during Desert Storm, and because Big Dick Cheney wants all the oil swimming underneath Iraq's sands so he and his Halliburton buddies can get richer and richer and richer;
6. Lied to the American public and leaked information to the press whenever it conveniently fits his agenda;
7. Dismantled environmental laws designed to protect and preserve the delicate balance between human beings, plants, and all the other animals on Earth so that we all can co-exist and survive;
8. Tortured 'detained' prisoners without just cause, then condoned physical, verbal, psychological, verbal and sexual abuse in direct violation of the rules of the Geneva Convention;
9. Neglected the homeless, hungry, poor, aged, disadvantaged, underprivileged, forgotten, sick, and unemployed in America while playing "Robin Hood in Reverse", stealing from the poor and giving to the rich elitists, lobbyists, special interest groups, and big corporations who - in turn - make generous (if not illegal) campaign contributions to keep the GOP in power;
10. Killed more than 2,500 U.S. soldiers (so far).

Our biggest international creditor is China. Once we've maxxed-out our national credit card, China will simply come over here and take whatever they want: assets, real estate, natural resources, OIL, factories - and we won't have the fiscal ability to finance a fight!

Yes, the USA will fall - probably before the middle of this century. I doubt that I'll be here to see it (I'd have to live to be 106!). But our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will not enjoy the quality of life we enjoy all because of Bush - in collusion with the most corrupt, evil, incompetent Congress ever to occupy the Capitol Building - destroyed our democracy.

What can we do about it? The Constitution affords us the right to bear arms against a tyrannical government, but until we get off the couch, put down the remote, and take to the streets demanding our country back, politicians will continue to suck off the taxpayers' teat, enriching themselves with lavish salaries, excessive pensions, exclusive medical and health care benefits, astonishing cost-of-living pay increases (while refusing to raise the minimum wage for 'common' folks), and all-expense-paid luxury vacations, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.

Thomas Jefferson once said: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is way overdue.

So sleazy politicians distract us with non-binding resolutions for gay marriage, flag-burning, and the PG rating of a Christian movie while doing NOTHING substantial or productive in the best interests of our society.

And we contribute to their sloth by concerning ourselves with such "pressing" issues as: maxxed-out credit cards; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000 SUVs; Britney Spears' new love interest; Jacko's pedophilia; "low prices - everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't even need; and the latest rankings of our favorite baseball team!

We're like lobsters languishing in a pot of lukewarm water. Once the water starts to boil, we'll scream in agony over our apathy. But then it will be too late. By then, the USA will have fallen and China will be in charge. -RKO-

No, because we are not an empire. We are a world superpower (the only one left), there is a difference.

Hard to say. I mean we can't be invaded and everyone has nukes.
The only thing that could happen is if our government was slowly taken over one politician at a time.
I think this happening by the way.
