I want to use my laptop as my main computer, but still be able to access and use my desktop hard drive without needing another monitor and keyboard. Is it possible to direct link or network (not wireless) the desktop HD and the laptop together that will allow me full access to both computers drives?

Ok, so you want to use your laptop to power your hard drive from your desktop. Basically your hooped. Your laptop will output its controls to an external advice but will not work the opposite way around.
If you want to use an external hard drive, you could get a box from
future-shop that will allow you to hook up your hard drive via firewire.

Firewire is super fast. I would recommend getting a firewire hard drive.

If your tower still works then you can get an ethernet router and connect the computers either wirelessly or wired.

If you tower does not work but want access to the hard drive, there are several companies that sell a chasis or adapther for the tower hard drive to be placed into and then the entire module is connects via USB.

Here is a link to one product but definitely look for more to ensure you get the best price.

Hello!

Yes, this can be done. The EASIEST thing to do would be to purchase a "Switch Box" that would allow you to just push a buttom on a little box and be able to switch from your laptop, over to your PC. They will share the same keyboard, mouse and monitor. I use my system this way as well. The switch box was very cheap. I'd try this first.

Hope this helps.

Yes.... You can share a drive on your tower-pc and mount it on your laptop. Doing this, you can access the data. BUT, you cannot (should not) install any program into a networked drive.

Or - you can install a software called VNC on your tower-pc. From your laptop, you can use VNC-viewer and remote control the software on your tower-pc.

Yahoo or google VNC and you will find a link to download and install this software. It is free.

Yes you can do it, you would need to install a software like WinVNC both on your desktop and laptop.
It would work over the network both wired and wireless.

Download and instructions on installing and using the software are given in the link below.
