I am very small and perfer tampax ultra slim tampons. Don't get the plastic covered ones, they have sharp edges sometimes and can get caught in the tender areas. Use some lubrication like astroglide on the tip to make any of them go in smoothly if you have trouble.

I've always preferred Kotex Regular. They have a plastic applicator, which is much easier than a paper one (think slide vs. stuck). The end of the applicator that you push has a flat rim rather than a sharp edge (easier to push), the string is longer and has a knot in the end, making it easier to grasp and remove. Also, they're just more comfortable than any Tampax I've tried.
HOWEVER, they are now being manufactured at two different plants, and the new one is NOT the same as the old. To get the "good" ones, check the bottom of the box for the code "KSTR" (you do NOT want "KSTRI").

All brands are basically the same but there are many choices- cardboard applicator, plastic applicator, no applicator, scented or unscented. Unscented are better, and in my opinion I have always preferred a plastic applicator, and occassionally I also like no applicator like OB. Cardboard applicator is better for the environment, but I have always had problems with them not working properly. There are also Insteads that you can buy, that are like a menstrual cup which you can leave in for hours without worrying about their health effects, and you don't need to worry about leaking.
