Why do people shout it? Is it just a kid's game? Is it for helping to find someone who is lost in the woods?

It's just a kid's game. My bros and sis's and I used to play it in our pool. Someone (who's 'it') would call out Marco with their eyes closed and everyone else has to answer Polo, and then the Marco person trys to find the 1st person he/she can find and then that person becomes Marco. You can yell Marco as many times as you like until you find someone.
We also played it if Marco thought there was someone out of the pool, he/she would say 'fish out of water' and if there was a person out of the water, that person would become Marco.

Its a 4th of July thing. Marco, was the scrive that said it while wearing a POLO shirt. It stuck and its good.
