my general perception of american people is that they are each unique individual human beings

I live in the GTA, Ontario Canada. Americans seem friendly and reasonably tolerant. It would appear that there are a large percentage of citizens obsessed with various forms of Christianity. For some reason a percentage of Americans are upset about the amount of Mexican nationals in the country, yet at the same time it appears that there are Americans of Hispanic back ground who are outraged by this viewed racism. I would put forward that the nation seems very divided over the Iraq occupation. The American people don't seem very interested in the rest of the world, but they also have a lot to deal with in their own back yard so this is quite understandable. A lot of Americans appear to smoke marijuana and drink alcohol. Nascar appears to be a new religion that is spill over the border. That's my spin, nice people who enjoy BBQ and football.

People are people. Americans, as most other people are victims of their cultural, educational and political systems. People tend to buy into their cultural propoganda: ie: America is the best, Canadians are not racist, Iranians are victims of the West. Media (tv, newspapers, radio etc) are controlled my those who want a very limited view to be allowed to circulate. Most people are either ignorant of that fact or quite happy to believe the propoganda, assuming it is positive or in their favor.

My brother lives in the States and his world view has changed greatly since then. He now speaks with an American accent. He identifies himself as American and will regurgitate the latest propoganda being circulated on the national news.

My experiences are varied: some positive, some negative but mostly downright funny! When I was 12 I visited California and was greeted by some pleasant and friendly natives. I was shocked when they exclaimed, that I spoke perfect American! English is one of the official languages of Canada and they didn't seem to realize this. Another funny anecdote: I grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and in the summer, worked in the motels/restaurants. I was always shocked when the American Tourists asked us where the snow and the Indians were?!! And this in July or August!!
