I hear a loud knock that sounds like it comes from the bottom rear and can be felt through the floor board. What does it mean? Thanx

The Universal joint(s) on the driveshaft is probably worn and loose. There are 2 of them...one in front by the transmission.....and the other in the rear at the front of the differential housing (rear end). Have BOTH of them replaced...because both of them are probably worn.

it would be nice if you provided some more information. like does this always happen, does this happen in forward. make model etc. My first guess would be you have a broken engine mount. By putting the car in gear it will make the tranny/engine rotate and knock againts the broken mount frame. As opposed to having the rubber absorbe the shock.

90% of the time your problem will be a transmision or engine mount but I have seen body welds come loose and make a noise. post what kind of car it is in your details to give me a better idea. model front or rear drive and year

did you run over something? do you have enough fluid in your rear differential? (we don't know if you have one or not because you didn't say what kind of car you have) Do you have enough fluid in your tranmission? It could be that the shock mounts are shot...broken u-joint, ring and pinion/spidergears in rear differential..................need more info

u-joints drive shaft dont drive but to the near shop not a bad fix til it breaks going down the road fix it now dont wait
