For most animals, light represents either sleep, or being awake. If it is night it's the same. For some once it starts to get dark that means that they can start hunting for thier food, for others it means going to bed.

as human animals, we need more darkness in the evening, to bring on sleep; turn lights out 1 or 2 hours before bedtime (if you can).
