Very much so. I used to work at several movie theaters over the years and learned a lot. The theaters make a bulk of their money by what is sold at snack bars (They only get a small percentage of the actual movies), which may be the reason why the food is so high, and why they sell other items there (T-shirts, posters, gourmet coffees and candies). Also, when you buy popcorn or sodas you're paying for the price of the cup or bag, not for the actual drink or popcorn. I no longer buy snack bar food, and just eat something after the film is over instead.

It's expensive but so are convenience stores at gas stations. I've tried to bring in my own candy but it just doesn't taste as good. It's drier when you buy it at the grocery store. And sodas? Just not the same. Movie popcorn cannot be touched. They just know what magic they possess and use it to their financial advantage.

Yes, at the movie theater in my town, a large popcorn and a two large soda combo meal is $12.50 and there are more expensive things.

lol I know what you are saying. It takes like a days worth of pay for me to be able to go. They should really lower the price. A candy bar would cost like $1 and in the stores like 50 cents!!!

I feel like we need to take out a second mortgage just to take the kids to the movie as it is! Heaven forbid that want popcorn, candy, soda, etc while we're there as well!

of course it is. Thats how they make most of there money. Do you know how much it probably cost to make things like popcorn, next to nothing. They make a killing on them. Thats why people bring their own candy to the movies now.

yes. movies are already to expensive, but then you have to pay a arm, and a leg once you get in at the snack bar. one day people will stop going to the movies because they cant afford it any more, and then what will the film industry do?

That is the only way cinemas can make money... most of the money generated from the films goes to the large hollywood studios.

hell yes it certainly is in Australia i know that much... me and my sisters bring a 600ml botle of drink and a bag of M&M's in our bag now and we save like $10 - $15 on getting the same from the candy bar...
ie
lg coke $6 (600ml coke from super market $2.40)
m&m's $6 (and from the store $3)
so who in their right mind actually buys from the candy bar
