In life, as we go through and learn lessons, we go into a valley. There is a mountain top ahead of us, yet we cannot see it for the clouds of despair. In order to become full again of the joy and love that we so desperately seek, we must empty out first of negativity and only then can we be filled with joy, love and caring and peace. There is a purpose for your being here and you may not yet understand it, but there is a reason for you being here at this time on Earth. Yes, we all have a season and when things happen in our life, then it is time to go within and ask what is the Cause of all this despair and non caring? This is only an Effect, what is the Cause? When the clouds of despair dissipate, you will see the mountain top! Have faith and know that it is there and that you will reach once again! Death comes in its' own sweet time, it is our responsibility to live each day to the fullest. Yesterday is gone, can't do anything about it! Tomorrow is not here, but what I think say and do today determines my tomorrow! See the glass-Life, half full, not empty! To put it another way: "As you travel through life brother, whatever be the goal, keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the hole! Peace!

You, my friend, are a Nihilist. You don't have a goal in life. I know how that feels.
Yours is not an entirely unsensible position. Most of the things everyone around you probably cares about do not really matter.
Things only matter in relation to the goal(s) you have in life. Most people have conscious or unconscious goals, mostly simply to secure a safe haven where they can procreate. And what is the difference with us philosophers? Only that our children are brain-children.
What is, at bottom, every ambition? - It is will to power. And those who have no ambitions are simply impotent. Some of these want nothing, like you, which is the worst state of mind. Human beings, even impotent ones, need desires. Therefore, there are many among the impotent who *do* want something, namely, *nothingness* (nirvana and the like). They long for their own dissolution, though they may call it "redemption". I hope you will not become one of those. I summon all your most manly - and immoral - qualities, especially pride. What do I find so contemptible about vanity? - That it is mediocre. Vanity is simply a low degree of pride. I am proud to have a positive teaching. I am proud to have ambitions. I am proud to have the will-power to will more power.
Hail Pride!

Would you feel any different if you knew you would live forever? With technology improving each day, maybe you will!
Life is longer than you think. Sometimes I feel like I've been alive for a very long time (which I have). I wouldn't want to live forever.
There are more people alive right now than have ever lived before. The earth would be over-crowded if nobody ever died.
As long as you're here you should use your talents to make your life better and fuller, and help others along the way.

It is important to care. I have gone through bouts of emptiness, but there are people out there who care about you. Knowing that people care helps to ease the emptiness. Yes, one day, we are all going to die. But we should at least try to make something of our lives. What we do doesn't have to be something that changes the entire world, but what we can do is something that may change the world of one person or that may make your own personal life a little bit happier. I know I'm speaking in generalities, and I may not be answering your question in a way that helps. Just realize that others care about you. And if you're around people who don't care, then be around people who do. I'm not trying to push religion on anyone, but going to a church is a good place to find people who care. Go see a counselor. I'm not suggesting a counselor is a source to get rid of emptiness, but the counselor can help guide a person in the right direction and may even suggest things and suggest places to go to find people to be with. Overall, trying to find what makes you happy and what can make you happy are keys. Death is not always the answer. Not having you around means that there is at least one person who has not had the chance to get to know you, and it may actually be that person who makes a difference in your life.

I agree with Bren, you need friends to help and bring you through this bad time. Try and do something just for you every day, however small, that just makes you feel happy or chilled - life can be so good!
But if you're feeling so cut off and distanced from everyone and everything that you can't see a way forward, perhaps you should see a doc to help get you through this dark time. The sun will shine again x

Do something for others---you won't feel empty then - you'll be too involved with others and you'll also see that your problems aren't so serious when you know what others are going through.
Yes, we're all going to die - its what we do with the time that we have that makes a difference. Once you help someone else then you understand why you are here. You will have a reason for living.

Sounds like someone is getting a little depressed! Get a hobby...something that makes you feel good and gets your mind off of everyday stresses. Our lives are short, and ya, we are all gonna die one day, but why not take full advatage of the little time we are here and fully enjoy life everyday. If it's your job that bums you out, try finding something you really enjoy. Something that makes you want to get up in the morning and look foward to going. Just relax and enjoy!

Self pity is a terrible thing, next to loneliness it is the curse of creation. Take my advice. Dress yourself up and visit your local hospital. Speak to the Sister in the Childrens' Ward and see if there are any children who have not had a visit for a while. Offer your services. Another avenue to investigate is to offer your services to a volunteer agency and see how low other people have become.............

you are blocking something your body needs. it is primal and the answer can usually be found in the quiet moments away from any distraction.
it is love. find someone who needs your attention and offer what you have denied yourself- the ability to love another person.
the rewards are fantastic, but you must make a move.
