What year? If it's a recent model, try pressing the trip meter button before you turn on the car. Keep it pressed in and then turn on the key (don't start the car). Wait until the maintenance light starts flashing, and then let go of the button. This works on Camrys, I'm not sure it will work on the Corolla.

If you mean the "Check Engine" light, yes, you'll have to take it to a dealer.

For Toyotas with digital odometer & maintenance light 1998-2006
Just like Hondas, but quicker.
with the key in the off position, Press the reset button under the odometer. Turn the key on but do not turn the engine on. You will see a small sign like this showing odometer: - - - - - -
the sign will counting down on itself, when there are no more minus signs, release the reset button and start the engine.

3000-5000 is a preset that you need to change your oil, that is why the light is coming on. Don't ingnore oil changes.

DO NOT unplug the battery cables, waste of time, does not solve any problems. Especially with the maintenance light, IT IS not the check engine light.

How about this unusual concept...get the work done.
There apparently is a problem and disabling the light isn't going to make it go away.
It could be something as simple as topping-off the brake fluid reservoir.

If it came on as a reminder for the oil change then by all means replace the oil and filter. That's very inexpensive as opposed to what will happen if you don't heed the warnings. Blown head gasket, seized engine.... much higher repair bill than a $20 oil change. The service shop will then reset the maintenance system.

when that has happened to me I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner p/u and I do not get my oil and filter changed at the dealership as I get it changed at a reputable place close to work. When the oil and filter has been changed then there is a reset button somewhere there that has to be reset after every oil and filter change if not it will make this light come on.

Actually you could probably just ignore it until the motor seizes and blows up.....leaving you a really hefty repair bill......OR.....you could get it to a dealer or repair shop and have it diagnosed and fixed for a lot less.

model year would be nice. It would definately be in your owners manual. The brut way of doing it would be disconnecting the battery then turning the ignition on then off. then reconnecting the battery
