I said "I am glad you made it back" shook
hands and just talked . I didn't ask questions.
Don't ask "did you kill somebody" or" did you see any one die"? Ask how you doing?

Treat them as you would any other family member, I'm sure this family member is just glad to be back and if he is coming to your house will be glad just to see you. A couple of welcome home banners would be nice.
