Why would make a guy, out of nowhere, trade a meaningful relationship or marriage for a one night stand, and after having fun, want to pursue the relationship again?

when you find out, tell me!!
I'm dying to know.
My best guess is: most men have their priorities mixed up.
Quick, immediate, short lived pleasure takes precedence over long term, rewarding, fullfillment of any kind.
Once the pleasure is over, the brain kicks back in.
Of course by then, it's too late.
BTW, the word "meaningful" has different definitions for men and women.

No, of course it's not "worth" it. But that misses the point. A man doesn't make a rational, logical calculation to measure the relative worth and value when pursuing a one night stand.

He's caught up in excitement and lust - and the very powerful emotion that someone might actually find him attractive & desireable - and WANTS him.

What women need to remember is that in many cases, the "meaningful relationship" on the other side of this equation hasn't expressed any of those things in meaningful ways for a long time - rather, she's nagged, pointed out the man's faults and demanded his complete attention for the longest time.

Now, NONE of that is justification or an excuse for the man straying - not in the least.

But before women can ask that question (or similar, which I have seen ad infinitum, ad nauseum here on Y! answers), ya'll need to be honest, fess up to your own weaknesses and flaws, and take personal accountability for your "meaning" in the "meaningful" relationship.

It's just the way it is sometimes...some call it natural instinct, some call it low self-esteem, some call it stupidity. Every guy is naturally the same...but some have a stronger sexual drive than others...and sometimes that drive can take them out of control. Usually to regret what they have done...it's like when you're shopping and you buy so much stuff...then you get home and realize...why did I just go and spend all that money? At the time you could justify it...but afterwards you understand it was a mistake.

Well first of all, it's not just guys that do that!

But people that feel too secure in relationships usually misinterpret that security for boredom and meeting a new person who ignites a spark in their "mundane" lives gives them the misguided hope that they could have that spark forever with this new person since it's presumably died out with the person that they are currently with.

Eventually they realize what they have and strives to make ammends. It all boils down to creating drama in their lives which, to them, makes it more meaningful or exciting... in my opinion, atleast...
