What do you mean lagged? In terms of what? Too vague a question? I am a muslim and live in the west, I would like to know the origins of your question.

In what sense are you talking about? And you can't compare religion and society...two totally different things though in some sense they could be related...
And Islam was created about 500 years after Christianity so that could explain what you are trying to figure out??
