I have a friend who smokes and has tried for months to stop. A friend and I have tried everything to get him to stop but to no avail. Now he is faced with high cholesterol and needs to stop anyway, but just as an added incentive I want to know what women think. What kind of turnoff is a man who smokes??

It sure is for me! I once had a button that said, "Kissing a smoker is like licking a dirty ashtray'' -- so true! The smoke pervades everything too -- hair, clothes, etc. When I used to wait tables (which was before smoking in restaurants was banned), I'd have to take a shower just to get the stench out of my hair and I had to keep separate clothes for that job because they just reeked of smoke.
On top of that, smokers usually get wrinklier faster and get yellow teeth, and dating someone who's addicted to anything is kind of unappealing. On the other hand, quitting smoking shows the guy has strength (since it's a very tough thing to do) and that he cares about himself and his future. Much sexier! :-)

Kissing a smoker is about as appealing as sucking an old nasty ashtray. After being around smokers, you have to go home and put your clothes in the washer and shower and wash your hair. No matter how tired you are, you have to do this, or the pillows and bedding stink like the back of filty taxi cab the next day. I don't see how these people can stand to be around themselves. Their breath stinks, their hands stink, their hair stinks, their clothes stink, their cars stink, their homes stink. Even their pets and children stink.
Further, you can't DO anything with a smoker. His whole life is lived around his stupid cigarettes. Either it's stopping for a smoke break or going to buy a fresh pack or frantically searching for a lighter until you lose interest in whatever you're doing because of the constant tobacco related interuptions. Even after sex, the first thing he can think of is lighting up! It's insulting!
And what about the money? Why would I want a man who'd rather spend his money on Phillip Morris than on me? Why would I want a man with so little character he can't control his urge to smoke? What does this say about his self control in OTHER departments?
Nope, not a guy I'd want to get to know at ALL! Why would any woman want to associate with such a nasty fellow when there are so many strong, smart, clean men out there to choose from?

It is for me. Even if the guy is attractive now, he still stinks. And many smokers have a constant need to stop whatever we are doing to go outside and smoke (smoking is banned in all public places in my state). Since I don't smoke, that means I get to sit alone for 10-15 minutes. Plus there's the super-unattractive thought of what he's going to look like in 10 years. Yellow teeth, aging skin, probably a chronic cough, and other health problems setting in. Gross! I'll stick with clean air in my relationships.

My greatest turnoff is *********. I hate even as someone assumes you'll like them because each and absolutely everyone else did. I under no circumstances cared about undesirable breath (i'd have stuck you in person-friendly words out of an italian eating position) or dirty shoes (possibly you're a runner)

I use to smoke and now that I quit for some reason being with a guy that smokes is gross...it makes us both smell bad. And its a real turn on if a guy smells good. (plus whiter teeth) In general it really depends on the girl (normally if she smokes she wont mind...sometimes an ex smoker might not mind)..but for me I don't like it.
Good luck with quiting....chew lots of gum, and keep your hands busy..that's what worked for me.

I don't really care either way, but I smoke..but when I didn't smoke, I thought it looked hot. ;) It all boils down to this though, a smoker won't mind a fellow smoker and a non-smoker usually isn't gonna wanna be around someone who smokes, simple as that.

It is a huge turnoff, their clothes stink, their car stinks, and kissing them is like licking an ashtray. I absolutely refuse to date a smoker, and a lot of my friends do too!

Definately. I kissed a smoker before and it was like licking an ashtray and then it seemed like I actually had tar in my throat for a day or two. Totally disgusting!

Smokers (male or female) are extremly unattractive..it shows ignorance..why do something that can shorten your OWN life!?
