Yankee fans have always done this. They have been known to even boo the late Mickey Mantle during his playing days and you know Mickey was great!

An interesting question. Yankee fans, like Philly fans to a lesser degree, tend to boo anyone they feel isn't performing up to what they feel are their standards, and the expectations of AROD are just nuts. This guy is arguably the second greatest shortstop (I know, he plays third, but that's because of Jeter) of all time (behind Honus Wagner), and routinely hits 40 HR's, drives in 120 RBI's a season, and plays hit butt off year in year out.
People tend to be a bit turned off by AROD's demeanor because at times he comes off a bit corporate and rehearsed in the way he speaks to the media, which some interpret as phony. I don't know about that, but the fact remains the guy is a spectacular player, huge salary or not.
Fans boo because their ignorant. What can I say?

New York fans have been a little spoiled by the frivolous spending and expect too much. He is the reigning AL mvp and has career numbers that could potentionaly make him the greatest of all time. I can understand the frustation of the fans due to the financial investments they have in these players and that they are facing the risk of not even making th playoffs. I think theyll be there. Arod needs to step up in the clutch though

Probably the yanks were up when he hit the home runs, Arod is spineless.Never count on Arod to carry your team or ever be a clutch player.

that is a easy question I'm from the Bronx so i can tell you after a while when you see a player doesn't progress you get mad after a while cuz come on tell me one Yankee fan who doesn't like a-rod come on he is "MVP".you just have to show them "tough love" that is how it is in the Boogie Down Bronx. That is why we have 26 world series rings.Patience is the key that is what Joe Torre told me when i was on the train!

He has been know to not deliver in the clutch and its New York. It is a "what have you done for me lately" town. When he delivers he gets cheered when he doesn't even if it is his next at bat he will be booed. That's how it works.

yankee fan expect everyone to be perfect all the time.
they expect yankees to win every day.
but guess what?
that aint gonna happen.
they should get used to be losers....cuz the yankees are winless in the 21st century, and will continue to be so.
