You really REALLY need to buy a normal bra because your sports bra wont offer you the support you need. My friend wore sports bras all thru hugh school when her breasts were still developing and now they are really flat and saggy. The proper way to measure yourself is to measure right around your armpits - that is the band size, like 34 or 36. The cup size is the measurement around your bust (with a bra on) at the fullest point, usually around your nipples. The difference betweenthe two measurements is your cup size.
For example. If i measured right under my armpits and got 34 inches, that would be the band size. If i measured around my breasts and got 38 inches, there is a four inch difference. My cup size would be a D.
Here is the cup/inch ratio:
A- 1 inch
B - 2 in
C - 3 in
D - 4 in
DD - 5 in... and so on.
I understand your frustration.. I have had MANY problems trying bras on and finding ones that fit because I have large breasts but a small ribcage. Anyway, if you were trying on a 34 B and the cup was too tight, try a 36 B. That may help. You can usually go up or down a band size if the cup is too tight. Good luck. I know how hard it is!

Bra fittings and the regular instructions don't work right, because they add 4-5 inches, and a bra needs to fit to provide proper support. Your band is where your support *should* come from, but the standard measuring technique leaves the support coming mostly from your shoulders. As a result many women have back strain from their bras. Take a tape measure, and measure underneath your bust, be careful to keep the tape measure parallel. Hold the tape firmly but not tightly or loosely, so that it will be accurate. You might want your mom or sister or your female friend to help. If it is at a half inch spot, round up or down to the nearest whole inch. Now, if the number is even, that is your band size. If it is odd, add or subtract 1 inch to get a band size. Then, measure around the fullest part of your bust. Take this number, and subtract your band size from it. The number of inches difference determines your cup size. Use any chart, such as at Victoria's Secret, to find out the cup size based on the number of inches difference. Try on bras in the band and cup size you have found. If the band seems too tight, go up a band size and down two cup sizes (2 inches). If the band seems too loose, go down a band size, and up two cup sizes. If the cups aren't working, try other cup sizes. Try many sizes until you have a combination that seems to work best for you. Different brands do vary, especially in band fit. The girls at Victoria's Secret have a limited number of cup sizes, so they will try to size you up in band size, bigger than you really need to go, in order to get you into smaller cups so they can sell you a bra. They have a tendency to make people feel bad about the size they think they wear, but they don't know what they are talking about. Measure first, then try the sizes in a variety of brands. Walmart has a large selection of brands. Remember, if you change the band size, change the cup size. Also, adjust the straps to your comfort level, and don't make your shoulders do all the supporting. You don't want to be hunched over when you're 45! Get a tight enough band so that the support comes from your ribcage and back without making it difficult to breathe. If you put your hand next to the band on your back, and then turn your hand perpendicular to your back, the band should provide resistance and should not move out more than half an inch to an inch.

Your a half size, which is not uncommon. All that means is that you need a 1/2 size larger than a B and smaller than a C. You can go just about to any department store and have them measure you to find out the exact size you need. No need to be embarrassed you can just choose a store that you do not plan to ever go back too, if you are really shy. Don't worry they Measure a lot of people and more than likely they will not remember you. Most department stores are now starting to carry half sizes so you should not have a problem finding a great fitting bra.....Just remember more expensive also means better quality.

If a B cup 34 was too tight, but the cup (the part that holds you in) fit properly...then just go up in 34, 36, 38, 40, 42.....These numbers are the size around not the cup size...a B is a B and regardless of the numbers after it it remains the same cup size. So just adjust the numbers....Also when you do purchase one make sure that you buy one that is on the last adjustment (on the most loose that it can go) just to account for stretching of the fabric...Enjoy :)

You may want to try a 36 B. If that doesn't work, there is a company (Playtex, I believe) that makes odd sizes (like 33, 35...) and half-cup sizes (almost B, almost C...) You can find these bras at JC Penneys and other major dept stores. Also, a big plus in these dept stores, is that the saleswomen who usually work there have experience in helping you find a bra that fits correctly. Most of them also know their brands very well.
Also, in my experience, different brands fit a little differently. I would look around some more and try different brands.
Don't give up! And try not to be shy! Be proud of your body, Women are beautiful creatures that come in so many different shapes and sizes; plus you are 16. Your body is still shaping, forming and developing, so hang in there!
Have fun shopping!

There are some companies that have "in between" sizes now, like b 1/2 and such. Or try going up a size to a 36 B and try that one on. The "cup" size changes depending on the full size. Weird but true.

check with a department store when the representative for the brand name bra that you think is pretty is going to be there. every brand fits differently. the rep. will measure you and suggest the perfect bra style and fit for that particular line of bras.
style + comfort + prefect fit = perfect bra and happy you!!
