Just wondering. I'm not a homosexual, but I heard that some, of this particualr type of sexual orientation, go to a hypnotherapist to "cure" them from this condition. Please note that I have placed the word cure in quotation marks because I do not consider homosexuality a disease, but am short of a more suitable word. I have nothing wrong with people of this sexual orientation, I respect their decision to carry their lifestyle, but I was just wondering if it's possible for them to rid themselves of this mental inclination, as I know that gays don't choose to be gay; they're born that way. So...is it possible to "cure" homosexuality through hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy cannot "cure" anything. IT can open avenues to insight, but it cures nothing. Perhaps a better word would have been "Change", not "cure." People who are Gay are, by nature, gay. Let me rephrase the question to "Can hypnotherapy 'Cure" Heterosexuality?" Being straight, you know that there is little if anything that could be done to make you attracted to the same sex. The same is true of Homosexuals. The idea that "treatment" can change a person's sexual identity is archaic, ignorant, and scientifically proven to be wrong. Gay people did not wake up one day and decide they were going to be "Gay." This is not a choice, and I am surprised that many here think it is. Do you really think you could make that decision? I didn't think so....why, then, do so many Heterosexual people thinks others can make that decision...? Sort of ill informed and not very introspective, is it? Good luck

Regardless of what some "exgay" websites want people to believe, no.
There were several experiements with hypnotherapy throughout the 20th century, even into the 1960s. They listed themselves as "successful" for getting gay men to start, as their results say, "dating girls." Most of the participants did not want to be homosexual, which probably led to the dating part, in other words, they were able to change some outward behaviors but it did not change the homosexuality.
None of the studies showed evidence of any kind of follow-up to see if they had intimate physical contact, which seems doubtful. Hypnosis cannot force a person to do or say things they really don't want to.
I really respect your putting "cure" in quotation marks...just also wanted to let you know it's more than a mental inclination, but an emotional one as well.

No. If it were possible, then hypnotherapists would be making a fortune, and also there would be very few homosexuals. Most homosexuals/bisexuals do go through an early phase of wishing they could become straight - this is why exgay organisations make loads of money. An exgay organisation can earn in a day what a progay charity receives in a month (in terms of donations).

No one wants to chose a life where they are persecuted or made fun of where the basic rights of having a job or marriage is denied because of who they sleep with. Hypnotherapy is a iffy process at best and it will not force anyone to do anything that is not their nature like kill or have sex with you ( forget the charlatans you see on TV that make a person act like a monkey I took the classes and can do the "act like Michael Jackson" ( where you tell someone that hes Michael Jackson) routine. and it was a act some people just want to get up and act stupid Hypnotherapy just brings you to a subconscious level where your more receptive to change bad habits like smoking or drinking not your human nature anymore than you could change the fact that you are born black , white , Asian .or European.

No. There is no known cure for homosexuality. One can abstain from homosexual behavior, and there are certain brain washing techniques used to do that, but the person is still a homosexual.
Get over the idea of curing homosexuality and try to cure homophobia and heterosexism.

All efforts to "cure" homosexuality are behavioral only. these facilities have high "relapse" rates because they cannot rid a person of sexual thoughts towards the same sex. Basically the only thing they can do is make you abstinent or repress those thoughts and try to concentrate on their opposite sex leanings if they were bisexual leaning towards the same sex. BTW some teen camps made for gay kids use electroshock therapy.

Nope.
Some people get convinced to no longer act on how God made them, but they are still gay or lesbian. Then they are also screwed up psychologically until they are true to their own nature.
Being gay is not a "mental inclination;" neither is being straight or bi. It's how God made you.
I have yet to meet a successfully "cured" person who was "formerly" gay. Most people claiming this are a sham.

The current argument/debate, is wether Homo Sex is a nature, or a nurture (choice based on experience) issue.
That is a very deep, tough, dynamic question. Hypnotherapy can not cure anything that is broken, so yours is a shallow question.
Is it a born or learned action?

Can hypnotherapy "cure" heterosexuality? Can you be hypnotised into thinking you're gay when you're not? The answer is the same both ways.
