If regulations are approved, BellSouth is in the process of being bought out by AT&T. There are bound to be layoffs, and the newest people tend to get let go first in these big mergers.
I'm not sure what city you're in, but you may want to consider working for a competitor. I have been in the telecom industry for over 10 years, and it's extremely volatile right now. If you have other options (besides telecom), you may want to consider those.
