All the above about education and hard work is true, but one of the things that people don't understand that if you truely want to be successful and keep that high paying job, you need to learn how to play the corporate politics game. I hear so many people whine and complain about corporate politics and that's because they suck at playing that game. Every VP and/or high executive are there because they know how to play the game and manipulate it to their favor. If you don't want to play the game and still want to have a high paying job...open your own business.
