Pluto is a planet, it orbits the sun in a planetary orbit and possesses a moon, and it may be entirely possible that several more "planets" exist within the kuiper belt.

I'm sure the Starship Enterprise has sailed past Pluto a time or two. Raise them on a hailing frequency and ask Commander Data; he knows a lot of stuff.

It's not a very important question. It's just a matter of opinion. Having better technology is a moot point. The question is just of what constitutes a planet. What size, composition, origin, etc.

Most people generally regard it as a planet these days.

"they" already do. It's always going to be a judgement call. Some consider it a planet, some a moon. Those who say planet say it's because it's got it's own circum-solar orbit. Those who say moon will point to it's size, and state that it's atmosphere is'nt a qualifier. Several moons in our solar system have their own atmospheres. If YOU think it's a planet, then it's a planet. If you don't then it's not.

Once they decide just what a planet is then the answer will just pop out.

Of course we will. Our technology always get better and better. Eventually, we'll have better telescopes and have a better view of that big snowball. One day, we'll have the technology to travel in space too.
