I used to spend my summers there...many, many moons ago...It's not all flat, but close to it. I can remember the area of Lakeside, where I had relatives that had a cattle ranch. The area is reminiscent of grass-covered sand dunes.
Alliance was an enjoyable community (had a bakery that , I swear, made the best Bismarks ever known to mankind).
My least favorite area was the area around Kimball...the air always seemed to possess an odiferous quality, and it seemed generally dirty. Omaha's a big city, but has the advantage of having a bit more cultural activity. Scotts Bluff and Chadron, also weren't unpleasant communties.
Nebraska, like most of the U.S., has its own sense of beauty. You just need to check it out with an open mind.

I've only driven through it on the way to Missouri from California. Nebraska was beautiful, full of corn and other crops. What a marvelous site. Also struck me as fairly flat.
