I think a major weakness is the falacy that management knows everything and whatever they say, goes, and should not be questioned. This has been a current trend since Big Business reared its ugly head in the 1970's. The little man no longer matters and is "only a number".
I think a major strength is that there is MUCH wiggle room for mistakes and that there is no "chain of command" to answer to, for the most part. This is a key component of a functioning business - to adapt to the ever changing needs of the customer.
