Because if you're hot it's a perfectly normal thing to do in this country! Plus we're not used to the weather (although at the moment its 33 degrees in the South of the U.K.!). And to the person who said it's down to alcohol fuelled behaviour blah blah blah. Grow up and stop being a prude! You're stereotyping which a lot of ill-educated people seem to do.

They're copying American Football fans who tend to do the same thing.
Please don't ask why that is -- either the Brits copying the Yanks, or the Yanks running around topless in sub-zero weather typical during the American Football season -- I have no clue as to the answers there.
For the most part, none of them have anything worth showing off anyway, unless you get off on sloppy beer-bellies.

No they're not copying American Footballers if they were they would put 40Ibs worth of protective gear on before they did that.!!!
It's to do with the old tribal thing. Like in the old days when men used to rip their tops and bang on their chests like Tarzan ready to fight the good fight! You would have thought we had come out of the stone age by now but no.
Men still do that. Especially the Brits, we are not used to warm weather mixed with beer and lots of testosterone. It's a definitely a tribal thing!
