Limp Mode is a failsafe mode that is carried out by the on board computer. When your vehicle is in limp mode, the transmission will remain in 2nd gear only. It will come out of limp mode if the ignition key is cycled, but only until the fault code that caused it returns. This might happen as fast as you turn the key back on depending on what the fault code is. Limp mode is caused, when the computer has sensed a problem with the transmission and then it generates a fault code, which in turn causes limp mode. Not all fault codes will cause it to happen. You have to have the vehicle scanned for codes.
